Morocco Touts Tourism Potential to Chinese Market

Morocco promoted its tourism potential in a high-profile event in Beijing on Thursday, aimed at promoting the Kingdom’s appeal to Chinese tourists.

Hosted by the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), the event spotlighted the country's rich cultural heritage, culinary diversity, and modern infrastructure.

Morocco’s Ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari, highlighted the robust growth of the tourism sector in the kingdom over the past four decades, pointing to a significant rise in interest from Chinese tourists.

Recalling King Mohammed VI’s decision to waive visa requirements for Chinese citizens in 2016, a move that spurred growth in visitor numbers, El Ansari noted that the Casablanca-Beijing direct flight, which was suspended during the pandemic, will resume on January 20, 2025, further facilitating travel.

"Morocco offers a rich, diversified tourism experience that meets the demands of Chinese travelers," El Ansari underlined, citing the country's cultural, seaside, and nature-based attractions, as well as its vibrant gastronomy and wellness offerings.

For his part, Hicham Bellaziz, Chief Representative of the ONMT office in China, outlined Morocco’s strategic tourism initiatives, including a 2023-2026 action plan focused on marketing, digital transformation, aviation, and distribution.

He also emphasized the importance of Morocco’s global tourism campaign, "Morocco, Kingdom of Light," which targets 20 key markets. Bellaziz also announced the launch of a new online training platform aimed at strengthening partnerships with Chinese tour operators.

The event featured screenings of promotional films showcasing Morocco's major cities and its deep cultural heritage, aiming to cement the country’s position as a prime destination for Chinese tourists.
