Morocco Highlights Measures to Boost Domestic Tourism

The Moroccan Minister of Tourism, Fatima-Zahra Ammor, shed light, Monday in Rabat, on the measures taken at the level of the ministry as well as other departments concerned to revive domestic tourism.

Speaking at the House of Representatives (lower house) on the situation of domestic tourism in the light of the crisis linked to Covid-19, Ms. Ammor said that in order to put in place the solid foundations of the sustainable development of domestic tourism, a study was carried out in collaboration with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) in order to identify the requirements of the Moroccan client regarding the national tourism product.

In this regard, the Minister noted that this study has shed light on the preferences of Moroccans in terms of activities including seaside tourism, visits to cities and natural and historical sites, as well as sports activities including nautical sports.

Following this study and as part of its programs aimed at ensuring a balance between supply and demand, she said, the ministry encourages investments in the tourist products sought by Moroccan tourists, as well as the creation of tourist resorts with tariff offers adapted to the purchasing power of Moroccan tourists.

She pointed out that the ministry is working, in the framework of partnerships with other departments as well as with local communities, on improving the attractiveness of the tourist product in favor of Moroccan tourists, in particular through the promotion of old medinas and the creation of tourist circuits, cultural activities and the promotion of sports activities.

The minister noted that the ONMT has set up an ambitious program to promote the Moroccan product, adding that her department is collaborating with the Ministry of Economy and Finance for the establishment of holiday vouchers that will allow reduce travel costs and thus promote domestic tourism.
