The UN World Tourism Organization (WTO) is holding its 117th Executive Council, on November 23 and 25 in Marrakech, in the presence of 250 representatives of the Member States, including ministers and high officials in charge of tourism of the Member States, representatives of public or private structures concerned, destination management bodies, as well as specialized investors.
This 117th edition of the Executive Council, the UNWTO governing body, is a key meeting for global tourism stakeholders, which allows to reconfirm the priority guidelines post-Covid-19 for the development of the resilience of the sector, said a statement of the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social Economy - Department of Tourism, noting that several initiatives will also be launched, including those in favor of the Moroccan micro-businesses working in tourism.
Morocco will be represented by a delegation chaired by Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social Economy.
The Moroccan participation will be ensured by professionals representing the sectoral federations, in particular the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT), the National Federation of the Hotel Industry (FNIH), the National Federation of Travel Agencies of Morocco (FNAVM), in addition to the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and the Moroccan Society of Tourist Engineering (SMIT).
"The designation of Morocco for the holding of the UNWTO Executive Council enhances the institutional cooperation between the two parties, and consolidates the position of the Kingdom as a model in the promotion of sustainable, ethical and especially resilient tourism in the face of the various changes that the sector is experiencing. This event also presents an excellent opportunity to bring Morocco's destination in general and Marrakech in particular to the forefront of opinion leaders in the tourism sector and the international media", stressed Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, quoted in the statement.
The event will indeed benefit from a wide media coverage thanks to the participation of several international media groups specialized in tourism.
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will be honored during the 117th UNWTO Executive Council through a thematic session entitled "SMEs and talents, vectors of the transformation of tourism", added the same source.
