The Algerian army is developing Tindouf Airport to become a military airbase capable of accommodating Sukhoi fighters that Algeria obtained from Russia, Assahifa Arabic exclusively revealed.
According to the same source, Tindouf knows the presence of many military engineers and army officers, who are working to convert part of the Tindouf airport into a military base near the Moroccan border.
The Algerian army began developing the airport and strengthening its runways to accommodate military aircraft, since the beginning of this year, Assahifa said.
The newspaper published pictures of Google Earth, showing many combat helicopters on the airport runway, which has been strengthened and given the appropriate length to suit the military aircraft that will be stationed at the base, with the construction of many barracks and warehouses, and tighter control over the airport, which has turned into a military base closed to civilians.
Algeria had earlier protested against Morocco's construction of a military barracks in the "Jerada" area near the Algerian border, although Morocco announced that the barracks were intended to house soldiers and that there were no military objectives behind them.
But it seems that the Algerian regime does not trust its Moroccan neighbor, and believes in its famous saying that “Morocco is the classic enemy” of Algeria.
