Laayoune: Police Foil Attempt to Traffic Over 1.3T of Chira

Police in the city of Laayoune foiled an attempt to traffic a ton and 381 kg of chira on Friday, and arrested a 47-year-old individual for alleged links with a drug trafficking network.

This operation, carried out in the city of Laayoune, allowed the seizure in the suspect's home of 42 bundels of chira totaling one ton and 381 kg, said the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a statement.

A 4x4 car, a satellite communication device, as well as three inflatable boats which would be used in international drug trafficking operations were also seized, added the same source.

A check of the suspect against the National Security database revealed that he was the subject of a national wanted persons notice in another case of international drug trafficking.

The suspect was subjected to a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office to determine the possible ramifications of this criminal activity and elucidate all the criminal acts of which he is accused.

This security operation is part of the DGSN's intense and ongoing efforts to combat international trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances, the statement concluded.
